RUAG, Take Two: 24 Gigabytes, a Ransom and an Empty Seat on the Board
While researching my book «Daten in fremder Hand» (Data in Foreign Hands), I am investigating the 2014 cyberattack on RUAG. And in the middle of that work, I stumble upon the next one: in November 2025, the ransomware group Akira exfiltrated 24 gigabytes of data from the US subsidiary of the state-owned defence group — and RUAG paid a ransom.
